How to rank your business on Google in Alicante: step-by-step local SEO

Google ranking for businesses in Alicante: real strategy, honest timelines and the 10 mistakes that destroy any local SME's SEO.
If you have a business in Alicante and still depend on word-of-mouth or Instagram for customers, you're leaving money on the table every day. People search Google before picking up the phone or booking a table. If your site doesn't show up for the searches that matter, you don't exist for that customer.
This is the no-fluff version of how to rank a business in Google in Alicante, based on what we've seen work (and fail) in recent years.
First: understand what people search for in Alicante
Before touching anything, go to Google Search Console (if you have it) or use a tool like Google Trends and look at what your customer ACTUALLY searches. Typical patterns in Alicante:
- Implicit geolocated searches. "Best café with WiFi" from a mobile in Alicante already filters local results without the user typing the city. Google assumes geography.
- Searches with neighbourhood. "Dentist San Blas", "Restaurant Mercado Central", "Hairdresser Garbinet". These neighbourhood clusters are gold because competition is 1/10 of city level.
- Brand + service searches. If you already have a locally known name, "[your brand] prices" or "[your brand] hours" are strong signals of existing demand.
- English searches in coastal areas. If your business is near Playa San Juan, Albufereta or Cabo de las Huertas, you have international audience searching in English.
The first thing in SEO isn't writing content. It's understanding which key your customer hits.
The 4 levers that matter in Alicante
In order of impact and difficulty:
1. A well-managed Google Business Profile
For a physical business in Alicante, the Google listing weighs more than the website. Critical:
- Very specific primary category (not generic).
- Main photo with your storefront from outside (not a logo).
- 5 Posts per month minimum.
- Constant reviews (not in bursts).
- Products/services with prices when possible.
If your listing is abandoned, that weighs more than having a perfect site.
2. One page per service on your website
If you offer 5 services and have them all on one page, you're competing in SEO with a single cartridge. One page per service = 5 chances to rank. Each page with:
- Unique optimised title.
- At least 800 words of useful content.
Serviceschema.org pointing toLocalBusiness.- Real photo/video of the service.
- Clear contact CTA.
3. Local content that answers real questions
This is the workhorse. Create content that answers questions your customers ask, mentioning Alicante naturally:
- "How much does a boiler replacement cost in Alicante" (if plumber/heating).
- "Best time to visit Santa Bárbara castle" (if tour operator).
- "What to do if your car battery dies in Alicante" (if you run a workshop).
- "Difference between tourist and residential rentals in Alicante" (if real estate).
Each of these posts:
- Captures search traffic with pre-purchase intent.
- Positions you as a local authority.
- Lets you link internally to your service pages.
4. Google reviews and local links
Reviews are the most underestimated thing. Any business with under 30 reviews has a very low ceiling in Alicante local SEO, where there are sectors with 200+ reviews as the norm.
And links: local media (Información, Diario Información, La Verdad), Alicante blogs, business associations (Cámara de Comercio, COEPA), local events. A single link from a relevant Alicante outlet is worth more than 50 random links.
Typical mistakes Alicante SMEs make
I've audited more local sites than I can remember. These mistakes repeat:
- WordPress template site with no basic SEO. No alt on images, no schema, no sitemap.
- Same (literal) keyword in the title of 8 different pages. Google gets confused and ranks none.
- Contact page without embedded map. You lose a key local signal.
- Repeated text across several service pages. Duplicate content = soft penalty.
- Super slow site on mobile. If your LCP is 5 seconds, Google demotes you. And 70% of local searches are mobile.
- Not using
hreflangwhen you have an English version. - Changing the business name on Google without updating the website.
- No phone visible in the header. You lose calls and conversion.
- Posting to the blog once a year. It's like opening only on Christmas Eve: nobody counts on you.
- Hiring dirt-cheap SEO (€50/month) that destroys the site with toxic backlinks. Recovering costs more than good SEO.
How long to see results in Alicante
By typical sector:
- Hospitality and restaurants: visible improvements in 2–3 months if you work Google Business Profile + reviews.
- B2C services (hairdressers, gyms, workshops): 3–6 months to see first consistent leads.
- Highly competitive sectors (dental clinics, lawyers, real estate): 6–12 months for defensible results.
If they promise less, be suspicious.
How much it costs to do it well
Honestly:
- DIY: €0 in tools (Google Business Profile, Search Console, Analytics 4 are free) + 4–6 hours per week of your time. Works if you have patience and curiosity.
- Freelancer: €400–800/month for a small local business. Quality varies widely.
- Agency: €800–2,000/month for complete service (technical SEO + content + Google Business Profile + reporting). What you save is time and consistency.
